Welcome Chris Surber is the Pastor of First Congregational Church of Peru, Illinois. He lives in the parsonage of this beautiful, historic, and vibrant church with his wife Christina, three sons, and "Happy The Saint Bernard." A native of Northern California, Pastor Chris joined the church family of First Congregational of Peru after serving Churches in Florida and Michigan. He is a military veteran of ten years; eight years in the Marine Corps and two additional years in the Minnesota Army National Guard. He has earned the Bachelor of Science in Religion from Liberty University, The Master of Arts in Religion & The Master of Divinity Degrees from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, He is currently pursuing The Doctor of Sacred Theology Degree from The North Tennessee Bible Institute and Seminary. Chris Surber is known for passionate preaching and compassionate ministry to the community of faith and the community at large. The thematic passage of his life is found in the Gospel of Matthew 16:24-25, where Jesus says, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." (NKJV) "We are pilgrims on the journey of life. Christianity is no so much about an destination of absolute knowledge inasmuch as it is a journey of discovering the divine; a pilgrimage of faith! God has granted us access to know Him in Christ. This knowledge is very much like the knowledge of a dear friend or trusted spouse. It comes through constant contact, intimate connection, and experiencing life together." |
